Spring Gold Rush Events Welcome New, Returning Students to Campus

Gold Rush is UNC Charlotte’s welcome program that takes place at the beginning of each semester. Events are hosted by campus departments and student organizations and are scheduled during the first few weeks of classes to instill a sense of Niner pride, teach campus traditions (such as the “49 Things To Do Before You Graduate”) and expose students to campus resources and opportunities for involvement.

Spring Gold Rush events run through Sunday, Feb. 2.

Signature events include:

  • Wear Green Wednesdays - Wednesday, Jan. 8 and ongoing; show Niner pride by wearing your green 49er gear all year long
  • UREC Grand Opening - Wednesday, Jan. 8, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., University Recreation Center; visit urec.uncc.edu for the week-long schedule of events including a dance party, dive-in movie (in the pool), polar plunge and more
  • Spring Student Organizations Showcase - Wednesday, Jan. 8, 4:30 to 7 p.m., Popp Martin Student Union, Room 340; check out more than 100 UNC Charlotte student organizations, enjoy a free hot chocolate bar and decorate cookies
  • Swap-a-Shirt - Wednesday, Jan. 15, noon to 2 p.m., Norm’s Lounge in Popp Martin Student Union; stop by Norm’s Lounge for a nice welcome back and swap your old shirt for a fresh CAB shirt
  • Annual MLK Celebration - Tuesday, Jan. 21, 3:30 to 5 p.m., Cone University Center, McKnight Hall. The UNC Charlotte community will gather to celebrate the life, work and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. The program will feature keynote speaker Randal Pinkett, recognition of campus partners and performances
  • Transfer T-Shirt Swap - Thursday, Jan. 23, 9 a.m. to noon, Colvard Building, Room 2300. This is an opportunity for new transfer students to exchange their old, worn-out college T-shirt and receive new Niner pride gear
  • STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Fair -Friday, Jan. 31, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Barnhardt Student Activity Center Food Court and Halton Arena. Take part in a career fair focused on opportunities in science, technology, engineering and math with 140-plus employers and grad programs offering 4,000-plus full-time jobs, internships and co-ops. Attendees include Fortune 100 companies, nonprofits, government agencies and local businesses.
