Title: Assistant Director of Fraternity & Sorority Life, since 2017
While at UNC Charlotte I was heavily involved in my fraternity (Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.) and our governing council (NPHC). With my involvement, I had the opportunity to attend my first leadership conference that was for fraternity and sorority community leaders. At this conference, I saw how student affairs practitioners can make an impact on students' lives and inspire them to enable change on their campus. Through different conversations with campus professionals and students; they were able to give me advice about how to grow our community plus inspire me to become a better leader among my peers.
After we returned to campus, I remember starting to have multiple conversations with my fraternity and sorority advisors about growing my leadership capacity which lead me to running and becoming NPHC president. When I became president, I started to realize my ability to bring people together for a common cause and to think critically about how our actions would affect future generations at UNC Charlotte. At the end of my term as NPHC President, I was hooked by the "student affairs bug" and knew that I wanted to be in an academic environment where I can help students build a sense of community with their peers while creating initiatives that would ensure all organizations have an opportunity to thrive at their particular university especially fraternities and sororities. I really owe Matt and Michelle a huge debt for lighting a spark that led me to become a student affairs professional and pursuing all opportunities that come with being a Fraternity/Sorority advisor.
